       As
a developed city in Asia, Hong Kong has gained its reputation of having
a boosting economy especially in the financial industry ; and over the
        years
the overall living standard and GDP of Hong Kong has grown significantly

during the past decades. However, the standard of respecting bio-diversity
        is
not advancing in the same pace as the economic growth. The traditional

Chinese belief of " Anything with its back facing the sky is edible
        " is still
dominant in some old villages in the New Territories area. Last winter,
we, Companion Animal Federation , has rescued quite a number of black
mongrels who were in the fringe of being a menu on the table.
      As
our name " Companion Animal Federation " suggests,
we educate and urge the importance of a harmonious human-animal bond
by first taking the notion of asking our members to " Stop
        Calling Animals " Pets ".
      The
word " Pet " in English is adequate but its direct translation
        in
Chinese becomes a discretionary word, which suggest a sense in inferiority
        and,
very often than not, carries a sense of a mere quest of love at the expense
of the owner's interest. Once the animal owner loses any interests in
        animal,
they will be foresaken. Animals at our homes are in fact companions.
Animals are animals and animals are never " Pets". All live
        forms are as
precious on Earth and animals can be our friends and family members.
It is time for us to learn how to respect life and bio-diversity before
        we finally
lose the colours of nature when various species of animals come to
their extinction because of human exploitation.
      We
live up to own own goal of respecting life via our belief of loving one's
own companion animal with a life-time commitment. We are glad to see
that there are many adopters who adopt animals with their hearts during

our Rescue Visits. We hope that many more people in our community will

        share our belief of

" Why should we buy..... When those
in rescue centre die " ©
        in the long
        run.

We also hope that one day there will be needless to re-parent any
more companion animal in Hong Kong.
      Companion
Animal Federation keeps on promoting and
encouraging community services with contribution by animals.

Currently we are working on our way to get to a full charity status
and at the same time we look forward to obtaining more funding
and support to help all animals in need so as to find them a precious

second chance. We are working our way through more proactive
educational compaigns and we are doing our best to establish
and maintain non-profit making facilities for the provision of
animal rescue and animal welfare service.
      Finally
we sincerely hope that the seed of broad-mindedness,
compassion, endurance, forebearance in our community will grow
stronger and stronger despite the recent economic hardship
that Hong Kong has experienced. We consider it is only with
respect , sympathy and understanding that our community will
turn to be a more amicable place to live.
