Pom Pom
author : CAF Rescue Team , issued on Dec 2002

POM POM is a 6-year-old Shih Tzu rescued by Companion Animal Federation( CAF )
on the first Outdoors Rehoming Activities to the kennels in Dec 2002.

Pom Pom was found in a cage barking and welcoming all passers-by.

Unfortunately perhaps because of his dirty hair,
he was not chosen by any potential adopters that day. According to the record of the kennel,
the poor dog had already been there for quite some time and he had a dead-line.
Based on CAF's past experience, rehoming a Shih Tzu is not any difficult task and thus CAF
rescued POM POM.

When CAF took him out from the kennel, we discovered that POM POM was
already microchipped. One of volunteers simply said " How dared the owner! "

We took him to a groomer to dress him up - for a new look and a new life.

As usual, our Grommer started shampooing him.

What she noticed was :there were 150 ticks just on the little month of this poor creature.

Well, this was not the end of the story.

We discovered POM POM had already been severely injured after he was shaved.
We rushed him out to our Vet for an immediate medical check up.

No one could spot the wounds at all when POM POM was at the kennel .

Could you imagine a dog, thin to the bones, with pus and sores on both the shoulders and the
forearms, with eye infection and tick fever, anemia and liver problem; shivering yet calm,
but POM POM still waged his skinny tail with his spirits to everyone who passed by and saw
him when he was in the kennel.

Once again, we said ' How could this happen to a cute and friendly canine friend ! "

What mistake he had possibily made to get this kind of torture in return ?

POM POM is still hospitalized and is taking a lot of medicine, and with the care and
love of our Veterinarian POM POM is slowly recovering.

POM POM loves our Vet very much and ' insists' to have him staying nearby his cage whenever possible.

Indeed, POM POM teaches us a very good lesson : Do not give up life when there is a chance.

What is more, POM POM reinforces our mission of promoting the concept of taking a life time
responsibility, and making a life time commitment to take care of any
companion animal you have.

We are sure that POM POM is going to find a good and caring home when he fully recovers.
We believe that POM POM is going to continue his mission to educate what is human - animal
bond. POM POM is truely a symbol of the respect of life.
